It’s never too late to learn something new.

Do you know someone who’s looking to upgrade their work skills, transition to a new career, or earn a diploma? The Peel-Halton-Dufferin Adult Learning Network and its delivery partners offer free programs and classes in Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Milton, Burlington, Georgetown, Orangeville, and Shelburne.

 

Available Programs and Classes

We promote a variety of programs designed to help adults develop and apply reading, writing, math, interpersonal, and computer skills. Our network partners deliver programming that includes:

 

Essential Skills Training

  • Help individuals improve reading, writing, and math skills for work, school and life. Learners will learn essential computer skills and how to communicate effectively.

Academic Upgrading – College and Grade 12 Equivalency Test Preparation

  • Prepare individuals for college or take the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) test. These programs help learners upgrade the academic skills they
    need to succeed.

Skilled Trade Preparation

  • Support individuals seeking a career in the trades. Our partners offer programs that prepare learners for apprenticeships, examinations and skilled trades programs.

One-on-One or Small Group Tutoring

  • Provide personalized support that fits each individual’s learning style. Learners work with a tutor to improve their skills in a comfortable setting.

Here's How It Works


We make it easy for organizations and businesses like yours to refer individuals to our programs.

 

Step 1: Information  We connect with you to understand the needs of your employees or clients and recommend suitable programs.

 

Step 2: Assessment  The chosen program provider will assess the individual’s skills to determine the best starting point.

 

Step 3: Learner Plan Development  Together with the program provider, the learner will develop a customized learning plan tailored to their needs and goals.

 

Step 4: Training  The learner receives comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure their success.

 

Step 5: Follow-up  The program provider monitors progress and provides regular follow-up to ensure the learner is on track and to offer additional
support as needed.

Adult Learners


Who is eligible for skills upgrading programs and classes?

In general, to be eligible for programs and classes, you must meet the following general criteria:

  • You must be an Ontario resident.  
  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must be able to speak and listen well enough in the language of instruction (English or French) to benefit from the lessons.

Some locations may have additional specific requirements for individual programs or classes.

 


 

How much do the programs and classes cost?

Tuition is free. Some programs may have a small resource/materials fee. No one will be turned away due to financial hardships.

 

LBS programs receive funding through the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, as well as fundraising activities, donations, and other funding sources.
